Matthew 16
Understanding the Cross:

Jesus' death stands apart in history because He didn't stay dead and His sacrifice fundamentally changed humanity's relationship with God. As the 'Son of Man' - a title from Daniel referring to one who would receive divine authority - Jesus repeatedly predicted His own death and resurrection. Though destined to rule, Jesus chose the path of servant leadership, giving His life as a ransom for many. His death accomplished multiple purposes: atoning for our sins, providing an example of selfless service, fulfilling God's plan throughout Scripture, and establishing a new community where all can be reconciled to God and each other.
