The Lord's Prayer teaches us to seek God's forgiveness while extending it to others. God's forgiveness is beautifully illustrated in the parable of the prodigal son, where the father watches, runs, restores, and celebrates his returning child. While forgiveness doesn't mean forgetting, trusting, or always reconciling, it does mean letting go and giving our hurts to God. When we hold onto unforgiveness, we don't lose salvation but miss out on the fullness of joy God intends for us.
